FAQ
Here are some answers to the most common questions I have received about my art and career as an artist
.
Could You Tell About Your Creative Process?
I mostly paint with watercolors. Everything is created by hand. Occasionally I also paint with acrylics, colored pencils or use origami paper. Inspiration really comes from everywhere, mostly from nature and stories. I also like to keep a sketchbook with me.
Do You Have Education In Art?
I learned to draw before I learned to read. I always loved to draw. It was my favorite pastime as a child. Later on, I went to art school and got my BA in illustration and children's book publishing.
Is Your Art Available For Licensing
Yes, if you would like to license some of my artworks into your products, email me at bluecastlefan@gmail.com
Do You Take Commissions
Not anymore. They are too much of a hustle!
You Are Quite Well-Known From Your Fantasy And Mythology Paintings. How That Came To Be?
I have always loved folklore and legends. The older and the weirder the better. Wolrd of fantasy art is wonderful, you can use so much of your imagination. I recently learned the word "mythophile", to describe a person who loves anything mythology related, that would be me.
Could You Tell About Illustration Process
This is different for everyone. For me, there is a lot of research that is involved. It is mostly me looking into images related to a time and place where the story takes place. For example. I illustrated a Greek fairytale, where people left coins as a sacrifice into a river for a waterspirit. I illustrated a scene of the coins falling into the water, I looked into ancient Greek coins (with images from Greek myths) and different fish that live in Greek rivers. This is not something I need to do, I could just draw something from my imagination, but getting inspiration from actual history is so much more fun.
Where The Name Fairychamber Comes From?
When I was a teenager there was a couple years when I only painted fairies. It was my Fairy-Era. I had a blog called Fairychamber where I posted them. That blog no longer exists, but the name stayed.
How You Feel About The Raise Of AI Art?
It wasn't that long ago, that I found out that some of my paintings had been used to train AI without my consent (which is illegal). It is pretty bad. AI can also be used for good so I am not all against it, but the world of AI art at the moment is a Wild West. I wish that people would remember that AI art generators are robots that have been trained by usually stolen, art from millions of artists. For your next project please hire an illustrator, don't use AI. I do hope that this is a fluke, and as a result, there will be more appreciation for traditional art, and those of us who work with watercolors, acrylics, oils..etc. For anyone is working in this field use https://haveibeentrained.com/ to see if your work has been used to train AI without your permission.
